Born in Switzerland in 1944, Tschumi studied in Paris and graduated from Zurich's Federal Institute of Technology in 1969. After teaching in London and New York he drew together his "Manhattan Transcripts" in which he addressed new forms of notation and conceptual inter-relationships. In 1994 he published a series of theoretical essays - "Architecture and Disjunction" (MIT).
With offices in Paris and New York, Tschumi's output is prolific. Current projects include the New Acropolis Museum in Athens, the Museum of Contemporary Art in São Paolo, and a Museo Park in France. Bernard Tschumi is the recipient of numerous international honours and awards.
