About Regulation |
The Independent Financial Centre of the Americas will have a regulatory body for its activities that is internationally recognised and entirely independent of political and commercial influences, and of the Centre itself. This structure is critical to achieve a principle-driven framework that will in turn foster a culture of self-regulation amongst the Centre's participants. At the outset, this will entail a high level of scrutiny for entrants in order that the rules governing individual transactions can be kept to a minimum, thus increasing efficiency and throughput. However, without compromising its probity, the regulatory body will retain full powers of flexibility to adjust criteria and requirements as it judges to be fit.
Under the control of internationally recognised and trusted individuals, appointees to the Regulatory Body will command global and local recognition and respect. We view it as a pre-requisite for successful practice that the framework they enact is welcomed by participating institutions, and blessed to the point of imitation by other regulatory organisations around the world.
