Our World
The Dominican Republic is a country of firsts. Situated on the windward side of the island of Hispaniola, the arrival of Columbus on 1492 made it a starting point for the project that gave birth to the Americas. Here the western hemisphere's first church, first hospital and the first overseas royal mint were built.

And since then much of the business that has been done between the north and south of the New World has passed through the Dominican Republic. The country's seven international airports, with two hundred and thirty five scheduled flights to European and North American destinations each week, continue the work begun centuries ago.
